The Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths course is designed to help you develop practical numeracy skills for work, further study and everyday life. You will build confidence in areas such as calculations, problem-solving, data handling and applying maths to real-life situations, while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
The qualification is recognised by employers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers across England, making it a valuable stepping stone for career progression and further learning.
This programme is ideal for adults aged 19+ who want to improve their maths skills, gain a recognised qualification, meet entry requirements for further study or apprenticeships, or increase their confidence using maths in everyday life. It is suitable for both individual learners and employers looking to develop the skills of their workforce.
You do not need any formal qualifications to enrol. However, learners must achieve a minimum Entry Level 3.5 in an initial assessment and complete a diagnostic assessment before starting the programme. As the course is delivered through self-directed online learning, you should be comfortable studying independently and have access to a PC or laptop with a reliable internet connection.
The programme is delivered over 12 weeks through flexible online learning. Learners complete self-directed study supported by online resources, one-to-one guidance from a Functional Skills specialist and optional monthly group sessions. This flexible approach allows you to study around work, family and other commitments while still receiving structured support throughout the programme.
This programme is designed to develop practical maths skills that can be applied in the workplace, further education, and everyday life. It is suitable for both individual learners and employers looking to support staff development and improve functional numeracy skills within their workforce.
Throughout the course, learners develop confidence and competence in key areas of functional maths, including calculations, fractions, percentages, ratios, problem-solving, and interpreting data.
The emphasis is on applying mathematical reasoning in real-world contexts, such as managing budgets, understanding workplace information, solving job-related problems, and meeting the maths requirements needed for progression into further study, apprenticeships, or employment.
To support successful completion of the programme, the following is included:

Assessment for the Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths qualification is completed through a TQUK-accredited online exam with remote invigilation. Throughout the programme, learners receive support through practice activities, mock exams, tutor feedback and targeted revision to help them prepare for assessment.
Exam registration is included as part of the programme, along with one free resit if required.
Learners begin with an induction meeting via MS Teams to get familiar with the programme and resources. Over the 12 weeks, they follow a largely self-directed learning schedule supported by one-to-one tutor guidance. Optional monthly group sessions provide additional support, feedback, and opportunities to consolidate learning. Mock exams and targeted revision are included before the final assessment.

On successful completion of the programme, learners will achieve a TQUK-accredited Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths qualification.
This nationally recognised qualification is accepted by employers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers across England. It can help learners meet entry requirements for further study, apprenticeships and employment opportunities, while also improving confidence in applying maths skills in everyday life and the workplace.

Once you’ve enrolled and completed payment, your place is secured, but your course may not start immediately. This is because the Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths is delivered in cohorts, which start every quarter (four times a year).
A cohort is a group of learners who all start the course together and move through the programme at the same pace. Each cohort is delivered virtually and includes a maximum of 30 learners, allowing for structured learning, tutor support, and group interaction.
After enrolment, our team will contact you to confirm the next available start date and provide full details about your cohort, including when learning access begins and what to expect before your start date.
The programme is delivered in virtual cohorts of up to 30 learners, providing a structured and supportive learning environment. The cost is £499 + VAT per learner, payable in two instalments: 50% at enrolment and 50% after four weeks.
