You have two possible options when considering the HBCA Award, each route is designed to tailor your experience toward an exciting, targeted niche.

Are you interested in starting a Childcare business from home? If so, this is the route for you.
Unit 1

Mandatory Unit (Both Routes)

Knowledge required to develop and implement skills on how to work effectively with children in a home-based childcare role. Unit 1 Areas covered are:

  • Equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Day to day care routines for children
  • Working in partnership

  • The role of observations
Unit 2 (Childminder Route Only)

Exploring the Role of a Childminder

The module is solely focused around setting up a childcare business.

Areas covered are:

  • Creating a business plan
  • Exploring how to set up as self-employed
  • Financial and taxation obligations
  • Registration requirements

Completion

  • Expectations required in the role
  • Reviewing partnership working
  • Understand advisory, guidance and support services for nannies
  • Understanding employment contracts with Parents/Carers

Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare is a Level 3 Award. If you want to work in a home-based childcare setting as a registered childminder, childminding assistant or nanny, it's the perfect course for you.

This qualification is one that you can study from the comfort of your own home, and is delivered fully online.

In order to achieve the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare, learners must achieve 6 credits in total.

The course can be completed between 8-12 weeks depending on the time a learner is able to dedicate.

This is a knowledge-only qualification; therefore, no placement in a real work environment is required.
