This Level 5 apprenticeship training programme builds the specialist knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to support learners with diverse needs across education settings.

It is ideal for experienced teaching assistants who are ready to take the next step in their career, focusing on areas such as special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), social and emotional well-being, or a specific curriculum area. This programme supports progression into more specialist support roles and helps learners develop their expertise in inclusive practice, mentoring, and curriculum delivery.

Completing the course earns learners a full and relevant Level 5 qualification - once the End-Point Assessment (EPA) is passed.

The Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship is academically equivalent to a Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND). It represents advanced learning and is ideal for those looking to deepen their expertise and take on more specialist or senior support roles within education.

As a learner, nothing at all. As an employer, course costs will be covered by levy funding. If your business is not a levy payer, 95% of course costs will be covered by government funding.

The remaining 5% of the £12,000 fee works out at just £600. For the value this will add to your CV and your team at work, the return on your employer’s small investment is a cost-effective way for you to help boost your school’s reputation and outcomes as a whole.

Like any higher-level qualification, the Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship requires commitment, motivation, and a willingness to learn. However, you won’t be on your own. The Childcare Company will provide expert guidance, tailored resources, and one-to-one support throughout the programme to help you succeed with confidence.

The Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship runs for a total of 21 months. However, you do have the opportunity to finish earlier, depending on your preferred pace of working.

The delivery of the course is a blend of online and in-person learning.
